A water maker can turn undrinkable salt water into pure freshwater using a process called reverse osmosis.

You may think this is only necessary for offshore sailors but with the current water restrictions in the Pacific Northwest and surrounding islands, it makes perfect sense for the average cruiser.  Especially if you like to cruise in remote areas with a lot of family members on board.
