[Music] Tech talk I'm Jake one of the technicians here with pys and today we have a question from Elliot who on his Factory boat has the main wire from the electric switch panel for nav lights autopilot fresh water pump Etc it's attached to his starter terminal where the battery is also directly connected to if he starts the motor while the GPS is on it shuts off all of the electronics and he knows that's not good for them which I totally agree what's the solution to the problem so in that case things are probably shutting off and disconnecting because of a low voltage if there is a big drain on starting the motor Electronics like GPS systems child plotted stereos definitely don't like low voltage so they're shutting off to protect themselves what I would prefer to see in this case is definitely having that main switch panel on its own separate circuit away from the starter circuit and even a separate battery for those systems so that when you are cranking on your starter battery to get the motor going all of your other electronics and auxiliary equipment is totally separate from that system in that way you can also if you have the motor shut down and you're still listening to your stereo or have a fridge running something along those lines then you're not draining potentially on your starter battery and going to cause a potentially dangerous situation where you can't start the boat so definitely having a separate house system for those loads would be what we would recommend thanks for sending through the question and watching boating Tech talk please be sure to check out our YouTube channel for all the other topics that we cover English (auto-generated)
