and welcome to votingtechtalk.com so we've got a question from a fellow voter evan and evan asked a question that's actually pretty pertinent and i get a lot and this question is um i would like to treat myself this year and add a tv to my boat and i'm not sure where to start should i go to satellite tv or should i use the internet for content i want to watch the news at dinner and maybe a movie or two at night love your videos keep up the good work thank you for the encouragement i love to share of course and most people that know me know that so that's a great question there's really two means of watching content on a tv right obviously you can have local content and some of us are going to have a dvd it could be a blu-ray it could be whatever or even a movie on a hard drive those things you don't need internet for and you obviously you're not streaming content you're not downloading content you're not watching tv content from a service provider it's just simply content you already have on the boat so one of the things that many people will do the first bar is especially if they've got a really good seller or plan and they're in an area where there's really good cell coverage or they have a booster check have one you're going to be able to actually stream over the air even something like netflix or even direct from a cable provider that is actually giving over the air service over the internet you can actually stream that with a good cell booster and a good data package because of course now you're paying on a per meg basis or per gig basis but you're going to be able to stream this content like for example on my own boat yes i have a sailboat and yes i do have a tv i don't necessarily watch a live news or anything like that but i will stream content especially if it's raining and miserable in the winter when i'm boating and it's dark i'm going to be streaming netflix over the air with a cell booster and it's a choice you know i limit the data and i go low quality on netflix so i'm not streaming too high qua quality it's not too expensive on the data plan and i'll be streaming over the air netflix and i'll be watching i remember uh watching any sort of show literally on the boat over cellular now if you're looking to have more downloading content from one of the content providers like abc cbs fox whatever channel you're watching cnn you can do that but now you've got to use a satellite dish and the satellite dish on a boat has to move because they always have to be pointing at one location and the boat is moving so you're going to either be purchasing what's called kvh or italian both are good options and you've got to do your homework to figure out which one is right for you so now you've installed this you purchased this dish install this dish it's got a satellite receiver it's got us and then you buy from a company like directv for example or in canada here an equivalent would be bell express view and now you can literally stream tv content like if you were at home no different and you can stream that content via your satellite receiver that you have in boat you see these domes they're about generally about the smaller ones are maybe about a foot and a half high above this wide and they get bigger and bigger depending on the size of the boat because the bigger the dish of course the bigger the reception so those are the two main ways of streaming content to your tv on a boat one is over a cell booster if there is a relatively okay sell signal and the other one is actually buying a satellite tv receiver from kvh or italian and then buying a set-top box from one of your service providers satellite service providers like directv or bell expressview here in north america great question evan and thanks for asking thanks for watching this video and we'll see you on the next video you
