hi
jeff cote here with pacific yacht
systems and roton industries
what we're going to talk about next is
ais transponders and receivers
ais stands for automatic identification
system and it's a
way for boats to communicate with one
another and also land
about not only their vessels position
their name their course on ground
speed our ground all useful information
for collision avoidance but also for
actually calling one another out
knowing what their call sign is so ais
is taking a sort of a
there's a huge amount of momentum these
days about adoption
not only in ais receivers which are
really popular in all of vhf radios
where you can have a vhf radio with an
is receiver and you can see the targets
right on the radio and you can share
that with your chart plotter
or mfd multiple function display so you
can actually see other boats and their
targets
actually directly on a chart plotter
this is not radar
this is actually all transmitted over
vhf frequencies or a subset of vhf
frequencies
one of the products that we've been
using a lot because it's just such an
affordable and good quality price point
is this amtrak ais transponder
and they also have their own splitters
so now this doesn't have all the bells
and whistles of other ais
but the big thing about them is it's
very compact look at this look how small
this unit is
right so for some boaters you know
installing a larger
ais transponder is a challenge this is
actually
relatively easy to install you can
obviously integrate this via enemy 2000s
to your chart plotter you can go via
laptop usb
and configure it and you can also buy it
as a sailor kit which yesterday we
actually sold to
a rib owner right sailor means you have
a single antenna and
installing a new dedicated and stena on
your boat is going to be hard
based on spatial constraints so what you
end up doing is you
use the existing vhf antenna and you
split it one for your existing vhf and
another one that comes to
ais transponder so this is a really
popular product we sell more of these
ais transponders than any other ais
transponders
and the really good reason is price
point it just
you know if you're sort of on the edge
of not sure if ais is for you and you're
sort of
aiming and unhauling and you're
wondering if is it too much and you're
not really
the commitment for buying the top-end
more expensive ais transponders
the amtrak ais transponder does it
you know not at a fraction of the cost
definitely worth considering good
quality
and we've literally sold hundreds and
hundreds and hundreds probably thousands
of them now
and we get no issues with warranty or
service it just
simply works so if you've got further
questions about amtrak
and if it's right for your boat reach
out to roton industries
or to pacific yacht systems post your
comments down below
and we'll be glad to answer any
questions you might have thanks for
