[Music] hi Jeff Cote with Pacific yacht systems we're gonna be talking about heating systems for a boat and we're not talking about reverse cycle AC if you've got a generator on your boat and you actually don't need the cooling but you want the heat you can run in your reverse cycle AC this is a different sort of heating system and it doesn't need a lot of power you don't need a generator you're actually going to be it's gonna be powered via diesel so the creation of the heat is via diesel and the circulation of that heat the water pumps and coolant or forced air is electric so there's really two parts but basically you can run a diesel heating system with just your batteries without a generator I've got one of these devices on my boat and I've written it a pretty long article in our monthly Tech Talk column in Pacific yachting and you can find those articles on our website by the way you don't have to have a subscription to the magazine and what I think is so amazing about diesel heating system is that at the end of the day you can be away from shore power and an anchorage maybe the weather's not so great or you're traveling north in the summer and you want to have heat either in the morning in the evening at night whatever it is and you do not want to have a lot of noise or connect it to shore power so that's really sort of the purpose the other thing which is amazing about this heater and the one that I have on my boat is it's got a feature that's called on-demand hot water so you can literally have this seater on standby and as soon as you open the hot water faucet either in the galley or in the head you can literally have even without actually having a hot water tank you can actually have hot water being generated on-demand directly from this unit so that's pretty nice and then also think about the benefits of having a shower no more 5-gallon small tank where you can have one shower maybe two showers now your limitation for showers are simply the amount of quantity you have on board as opposed to how much hot water you have in your hot water tank the heat is circulated with this via coolant it's sort of like how homes used to be heated a hundred years ago where there is a boiler down in the basement they circulate hot water through the home and then the radiators would give that heat everywhere so what they do is they simply have coolant that is circulated through the boat and then you have what are called heat exchangers and that heat exchanger has a fan and then you can actually have every zone on your boat like a ford cabin the galley the salon the aft cabin to be individually thermostat controlled so that every single area within the boat has its own regulated temperature and it's honestly it's probably one of the most popular things in terms of overall system that we do for boaters especially here in the Pacific Northwest where it's really convenient to have heat and it allows you to effectively extend your cruising season and stay nice and warm on board if you've got any further questions or you're looking for more detail contact us or also look on our website where we've written quite a few articles thanks for joining us
