hi jeff gotta here with pacific yacht systems we've got a question from a small boat owner 19-foot boat with a 84 johnson and 144 140 horsepower trolling mortar so this boater has bilge pumps aerator trim temps power lift nine inch garments stereo vhf the usual nav lights etc and a dual battery bank you know that's the one thing about small boats they'll pick they'll definitely pack a punch right i see boat owners that have 20-foot boats 25-foot boats that have as much gear as a 35 or even a 40-foot boat and the question from this boat owner joe is saying should i actually have a battery monitor on that boat well it really depends if you're running the engine all the time or not right you know if you're actually running and you're trolling and you're actually trolling for extended periods of time it's very possible that that alternator is actually not going to be outputting enough current to actually offset all the loads that you're running on that boat so we've seen trends where actually over time the battery voltage keeps going lower lower lower or lower to the point where the battery dies and the engine is running so if you one of those two batteries is used predominantly for house meaning you know you might start on run but you're going to run your boat on two then i would install and we're doing that right now on a greedy white i would install a battery monitor on what battery number two that you would use for your house so that while you're trolling you can see the trend right don't be surprised after six or eight or ten hours of trolling that number two is dead see the trend and if you can't offset your loads right as you're running your engine it's going to tell you hey you know guys we're going to be on board for another four or five hours but at one point we're either going to have to run to another fishing hole increase the alternator output by going faster or we're going to have to make a decision so battery monitors are a good way to not be surprised on the water and i'm a huge believer even on a 20-footer so that was a good question from jim thanks for watching this video if you've got further questions that we didn't answer please ask them below or go on our website and fill up one of the forms and lastly if you haven't subscribed to our channel please do so that way you'll get the regular content and in closing thanks for watching you
