hi youtubers jeff cote here from pacific yacht systems we've got a question from richard richard asks i have a two battery setup as it came from the factory one engine battery and one house battery and both are 85 amp hour 12 volt batteries they're sealed the boat came with a 40 amp pro nautic which is from pro mariner charger would you say this is too big and advise if i need a smaller charge richard well richard good question so we all know that or should know that when we size a battery or a battery charger for a battery we want at least 10 percent of the battery capacity as a charge rate so in this instance we've got two batteries one deep cycle and one engine battery but let's call it you know just for the sake 85 amp hours times two is 170 amp hours of capacity 10 of that 10 of 170 is 17 amps so certainly the battery charger here is adequate and can easily handle recharging both batteries because as we can tell it's actually not close to 10 percent it's close to 25 of capacity now pro nautic is a great charger and there's nothing wrong with having too big of a charger because again since it's voltage regulated the battery will eventually tell the charger not directly but as the voltage of the battery rises the charger will actually start pulling back and will not over charge the battery so there's no need to change that battery charger but it's good for the for richard here richard now has the ability of adding batteries without having to worry about increasing the battery charger size so thanks for watching and send your questions our way and hopefully we'll get them on our youtube ask pyx section you
