hi youtubers  jeff cote here with pacific yacht  systems we've got a question from a  fellow voter asking about what's the  right  battery voltage for their boat he said  jeff if you had to decide on a boat  battery voltage system would you choose  12 24 or 48  well this is a good theoretical question  and most of us don't get to make that  decision  right so battery voltage has huge  implications for the rest  of the battery size cabling on your boat  uh  to be it's sort of the same difference  between what was better on vhs it's not  necessarily the best product that wins  it's sometimes what's most popular  so for a lot of us we're going to have  12 volt systems on our boat not because  12v  is the perfect choice for us it's just  simply that there's a lot more  appliances and devices that run off 12.  as the boats get bigger and bigger so  around probably around 45 50 feet  some boats are switching over to 24  volts and very few other than electrical  propulsion  vessels are going to have 48. so if i  had to design a boat from scratch i'd  probably design in 2024 volts  it would have pretty much the amperage  on all the loads uh would reduce the  cable size by half which is good for  weight  um and also then if i had to run 12 volt  loads i'd run them off a  dc to dc converter we're doing that  right now on another book 52 footer  has 24 full boat and had a 12 volt  battery for 12 volt lows  replacing the 12 volt battery and just  simply running off a dc to dc converter  and so it simplifies so what that means  in other words is now you don't have to  pick and choose 12  and 24 you can actually have a 24 volt  boat 24 volt batteries  and have your 12 volt appliances running  off a dc to dc converter  and like i said before 48 volts is more  for electrical propulsion it's not  something that we do because we want to  it's something that we do because we  need to thanks for watching this video  if you've got further questions that we  didn't answer please ask them below or  go on our website  and fill up one of the forms and lastly if you haven't subscribed to  our channel please do so that way you'll  get the regular contents  and in closing thanks for watching
