hi  jeff cote here with pacific yacht  systems we've got a question from a  fellow voter  asking i bought a 2018 foot bay book  after educating myself through your  videos i'm in the process of going to  rewire my bug  good on you to make it better i want to  add a second battery  smart what would be your recommendations  with a blue seems add a battery kit or a  battery isolator to be better for my  situation  well the dilemma between a battery  combiner and a battery isolator is not  an easy one  but to be honest knowing 18 foot boat is  probably going to have two similar size  battery banks and you're going to be  probably going to have a battery one and  a battery too and they're relatively  going to be  equal or similar size when you're  actually pairing  two battery banks that are similar size  a battery combiner is certainly an  easy way to allow one battery bank  that's getting a charge from the  alternator  right or from a charger to share that  via battery combiner to a second battery  so with that boat size and i would say  that probably the next the first step  is doing a battery combiner doing a  battery isolator is more involved you  need to intercept the alternate output  which is now daisy chained to your  starter  if you have an outboard that is not  straightforward to do and i don't  recommend it  if you have basically an inboard engine  then you have to intercept the  alternator route it to a battery  isolator  and then also that doesn't solve the  problem from battery charging you're  also going to need to have a second  output on the charger or install a  secondary charger to recharge the house  so in a recap battery combiner easier  battery isolator better  but more complicated i'd probably go  with a battery combiner for your boat  good question thanks for watching this  video if you've got further questions  that we didn't answer  please ask them below or go on our  website and fill out one of the forms if  you haven't subscribed to  our channel please do so that way you'll  get the regular contents and in closing  thanks for watching
