hi youtubers jeff cote here with ask pys  so we're going to go down the rabbit  hole on this one a little bit and we've  got a question from jake a fellow voter  okay so jake asks assuming your engine  and house battery banks are both the  same size  in this instance 105 amp hours which i  would guess is probably a group  20 27 or 31 it would be 31.  would there be any way to hook up a  single solar panel to charge both  or do i have to select one and put a  battery selector  switch to both to do that okay so  great question from jake um there are  solar controllers by the way that  output like the solar controller itself  has two outputs  we don't normally use that and they're  not that all that common but they do  exist  and if any users on youtube have  experience with actually a solar  controller  that connects to two battery banks share  down below and let me know how your  experiences  are normally normally i'd say 98  99 of all our installs have a  single single solar controller  and this single controller with single  output  is meant to go to one battery bank so  when we decide which  battery bank should get a charge we  figure out which one is going to be used  the most which one is going to be deep  cycle  and that's where we connect the solar  controller so the panel connects to here  and this connects to the battery  now here's the key if you want to share  this device to another battery bank  then what i would suggest you do is you  actually put in what's called an echo  charge  it's a small battery combiner  that is directional so it allows current  to go only one way and not the other way  and it would have your house battery  share  a charging voltage with the engine  battery via a  echo charge xantrax makes that and it's  a directional battery combiner  and it's a way for you to make sure that  not only your house battery bank but  also your engine battery bank gets a  charge from one single solar panel  and one single controller so that was a  really good interesting question from  jake  thanks for watching this video if you've  got further questions that we didn't  answer  please ask them below or go on our  website and fill out one of the forms  and lastly if you  haven't subscribed to  our channel please do so that way you'll  get the regular contents and in closing  thanks for watching
