hi youtubers jeff cote here with ask pys we've got a question uh from charles a fellow voter charles asks i've got a 30 a 42 foot sailboat that i keep unmonitored on a dock on a small island there is shore power but we have many power outages i don't get to check my boat very often maybe every six weeks i have an efoy 140 which is a methanol fuel cell can i just leave that on automatic well that's a good question charles and yeah it's one of the benefits of having a methanol fuel cell methanol fuel cell is not just on or off it also has the ability in the automatic mode to actually maintain battery voltage over time and when we install methanol fuel cells on boats we tell boaters that one of the benefits of this methanol fuel cell is that if you do ever lose shore power and you don't have crazy loads but just a little bit of loads your fuel cell if it's connected to what's called an m10 cartridge which is about this big uh would provide about a little bit less but almost up to if it's full a thousand amp hours of battery capacity so if your battery bank is 400 amp hours that's over a thousand of amp hours that this methanol fuel cell can actually generate in power to replenish your battery so a fuel cell is a really good way to act as a backup charger in the event that you lose your shore power connection especially when your boat is left unattended for a period of time and by the way i have a methanol fuel cell on my boat and that is one of the benefits open with the methanol fuel cell on my boat is that it acts as a backup battery charger in case i ever lose short power thank you for watching this video if you have any questions please ask it below or use our contact form on our website and don't forget to subscribe so that you can keep having these weekly and we're producing almost four videos a week now and thanks again for watching
