hi youtubers jeff cote here
with another session of ask pys so we've
got a question from a fellow voter
scott scott asking a question with
regards to
and here goes i've got a garmin 4012
and a 720s so those are two garmin chart
plotters
one the garmin 4012 is basically
a 12 inch non-touch and the 720
is a touch version of a garmin chart
plotter they're mfds
which stands for mfd multi-functional
display
and so here this owner has two char
plotters
and he asks the 720s which means sounder
s is for sounder does not have a garmin
marine network port can i pass garmin
radar data for map overlay from my 720
to my 4012
via enemy 2000
this question get this question all the
time
this this happens more than every day
this happens
every couple hours i get an email with
this question so this is a great
question scott
um enemy 2000 is really it's
it's basically low data throughput i
mean it's it's sort of like
maybe the version of bluetooth you know
when you think about your home
you can't really stream video over
bluetooth i get that question asked me
all the time as well
they're like oh can i stream bluetooth
and i'm going to send video over
bluetooth
you can't bluetooth is basically for
streaming music
yes but not great music right the
quality is not as good
and enemy 2000 is the same it's going to
be sharing data
so what's data on your boat well data
could be you know the depth
speed on ground it could be ais
information other boat information
speed wind it could be
water temp it's just data it's not a
stream of content and when you think
about
video or radar that's a lot of
information
and so video signals are always sent
over ethernet cables
or wi-fi which is high data throughput
and enemy a2000 is really for
low data throughput and that's just for
like it could be engine data
it could be um so sometimes we're
digitizing even cooler stuff like
some people are digitizing all their
sensors on their boat they're actually
we've done that on bigger boats where
temp everything on the engine like the
exhaust temperatures being
digitized and sent over enemy 2000 you
can do the coolant temperature you can
an oral pressure
all of that is data it's not that much
information and that can be sent over
any may 2000
but if you're sharing for example sonar
and or if you're
sharing a radar you're going to have to
do that over with video and that means
that you absolutely need an ethernet
port
on the back of your display to share a
radar between a 4012
and a 720s
