Where to Mount a Galvanic Isolator

Question:

Jeff, I was watching your video on Galvanic Isolators. You say to mount it right after the shore receptacle. I have a shore power cord that retracts into a barrel in the engine room. I mounted the Galvanic Isolator in my electrical panel where the power cord ends. Is this incorrect and if so where should I mount it. The cord comes outside through the wall and plugs to shore power. I want to make sure it's right. Thank you for any help.  - Ralph

Answer:

Hi Ralph, almost all rules have exceptions, looks like you found an exception. Install the Galvanic Isolator as close to the shore receptacle so that no AC ground connection can bypass the Galvanic Isolator.  - Jeff
