Should I Use Dielectric Grease on Solar Connections?

Question:

I understand dielectric grease is NOT conductive, so should you ever put it on a terminal that will mate with another terminal (e.g., female end of a shore power plug)?  How do you like to protect against corrosion of connections where a solar panel connects to the boat?  - Jamey

Answer:

Hi Jamey, solar panels connect to solar rate wire, via an outdoor rated weatherproof MC4 connector at the solar panel.  In turn, the other end of the solar wire is generally connected to the solar controller via a compression style terminal at the solar controller itself. We have never used any dielectric grease on any of those solar connections. - Jeff
