Protecting a Windlass Circuit?

Question:

Hi Jeff, love your videos! I would like to replace my broken windlass magneto trip switch and thereby remove the power cables from the back of my switch panel. I see several options involving a circuit breaker by engine battery, small switch on panel with 70A relay fixed behind or a combination of the circuit breaker at battery and a simple low amp switch in the engine “on” cable that runs to the windlass relay. Any advice would be greatly received. - Charlie

Answer:

For protecting the windlass circuit we would recommend using one of these circuit breakers, located as close to the positive connection point. (assuming your windlass  is rated to 70A?)
