Installing the Alternator Output Directly to the Battery Isolator?

Question:

I have installed a Promariner ProIsoCharge 13 2-4 #23127, so I can charge both starting batteries and my house bank with both alternators. I want to run my alternator charge wires direct to this unit bypassing the starter motors (Mercruiser 5.0 MPI). Can I do this by just eliminating the charge wire going to the starter? I have calculated my wire size and the run I will need already, I just wanted to make sure I was not missing something? - Don

Answer:

Installing a battery isolator can be tricky, especially when wiring the alternator output directly to the battery isolator instead of the battery or the starter solenoid. On most boats, the alternator positive connection is interconnected to the starter battery via the starter solenoid. Make sure your alternator positive output only has one connection.
