December 2015

Thursday, December 10 - Book Launch: Cruising the Inside Passage

The Vancouver Maritime Museum is hosting an official book launch and signing of the new book by Peter Vassilopoulos. Cruising the Inside Passage: Puget Sound to Alaska is a photographic memoir of many years cruising the coast. 

 

December 4 to 19 - Carol Ships Parade of Lights

Tuesday November 24 to Wednesday November 25 - 2015 Boating BC Conference

On November 24th and 25th members of the recreational boating industry in British Columbia will step away from their busy lives to attend the 2015 Boating BC Conference, presented by Mercury Marine, at the Pacific Gateway Hotel in Richmond, BC. It’s an inspiring two days where people come to learn, connect and share ideas.

The theme Learn to Lead will take delegates through a series of presentations on the latest industry news and trends, best practices in business and personal leadership, organizational culture and human resources. Each will share tangible takeaways to help grow recreational marine businesses in all sectors across our province.

It is the premier event for networking at the ever-popular Navis Marine Insurance Industry Reception, and consistently creates an environment rich in comradery through shared workshop activities and entertainment.

It’s that time of year again when the heaters, fans and Dri-Z-Air are coming out of the lockers. It is also the time when we start to hear about boat fires caused by faulty electrical systems or defective heaters. Join Jeff Cote at West Vancouver Yacht Club, 7pm for his presentation.

Wednesday, August 19 - Canadian Premiere Of Mexico Pelagico

Vancouver Aquarium will host the Vancouver Premiere of the shark documentary film, “Mexico Pelagico,” featuring stunning imagery of open ocean marine life off the Mexican Pacific Coast.  The film will be followed by Q & A with Pelagic Life filmmaker Jorge Cervera Hauser, Pelagic Life photographer and videographer Rodrigo Friscione, and Saving Our Sharks director Russell Hennessey.

Daily, August 27 to August 30 - 28th Annual Wooden Boat Festival

Afloat and ashore there will be boats to visit, sea shanties to sing, family boat building, kids boat building, artists and artisans and buccaneers. Visit the website for more information.

Come and get a dose of Vitamin Sea at The Boat Show. 23 talented BC artists will ignite your fascination, awe and wonder with their handmade boats, sculptural work, installations and more.

Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12  - VRC Summer Regatta

The VRC is hosting a charity regatta to benefit marine conservation organization Georgia Strait Alliance. GSA's Clean Marine BC green boating and marina eco-certification program helps boaters find the facilities, services and information needed in order to protect our cruising waters for many years to come. Multiple sailing races Saturday and Sunday.

Monday, June 8 - World Oceans Day: A Celebration Of The Salish Sea

Join the Vancouver Aquarium and Georgia Strait Alliance for a celebration of the Salish Sea! The evening begins with a status report on the biodiversity of Howe Sound followed by a screening of a 30-minute documentary film, “The Unknown Sea”. Following the program, there will be a reception celebrating the Georgia Strait Alliance’s 25th anniversary of protecting our marine waters.

Expired flares can be brought to Steveston Marine & Hardware in Langley on May 2nd and in Vancouver on May 30th. The program is organized in partnership with the Canadian Power & Sail Squadron and is offered at no charge.

Release salmon fry, tour the hatchery, eat at the concession and do children's crafts

Saturday, May 16-22 - Safe Boating Awareness Week
