Luminescence at Vancouver Aquarium

Looking for new and unique ways to enjoy the festive season this year? Then visit Luminescence and discover how animals create and reflect light through special exhibits and shows. Visit the Vancouver Aquarium's traditional holiday tree, powered by the help of two electric eels! You can then immerse yourself in Jelly Swarm, a unique light installation where over a hundred jellies with LED lights will fill the entire ceiling of a gallery. Control the lighting yourself at the touch of a button and create beautiful patterns of light throughout the amazing swarm hanging above you. The event will run from November 22 to January 22 this year.

Hopscotch Festival Vancouver

Hopscotch, the West Coast's long-running scotch, whisky & beer festival is now the biggest combined whisky and beer festival in Canada. After another sell out in 2011, Foodconnect.com's 2012 offering's ready to impress. This year the festival runs from November 12-18th at the PNE Forum on Hastings Street.

From a one-night event serving only scotch & hops-based beverages in 1996, the festival now includes spirits, liqueurs & gourmet food over a week. The main event, Grand Tasting Hall, has grown from 250 people to more than 4000, including connoisseurs from the world over. Each year the festival improves its educational component by allowing enthusiasts to learn about and taste premium liquors & beers. With more than 250 products, don't miss this!

Electrical 101 Presentation by Jeff Cote - Burrard Yacht Club

Are you a member of the Burrard Yacht Club? Jeff Cote is speaking on Wednesday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. The topic is Electrical 101, just in time for winter boating!

Electrical 101 with Jeff Cote - Have you ever wondered if you are getting the maximum out of your batteries? Or if you really have to run your generator every day at anchor? Do you check your electrical wires for corrosion and chafing on a regular basis? It is not the most glamorous side of boating but it is a necessity and ignoring it only makes it more dangerous. Join us for an evening of no-nonsense, plain English Electrical 101. This presentation is designed for beginners, tech savvy and DIY experts alike.

Photography Exhibit Fishing the West Coast 2012 - Now Open!

The photography exhibit Fishing the West Coast 2012 at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston is now open! This annual exhibit features photographs of the West Coast fishing industry. Separated into categories, the images span from artistic interpretation to realistic images of life on the water.

The photo contest entries can be found on this Flickr page. The photographs were submitted as entries to the “Fishing the West Coast Photo Contest” and  visitors to the Cannery can play an important role in helping determine this year’s winners. Go down to the Cannery or visit the Flickr page to vote for your favourite photographs!

6th Annual Mosquito Creek Boat Show

This year's boat show at the Mosquito Creek Marina in North Vancouver, is expected to draw over 2,000 attendees. The event runs from September 20th - 23rd (Thursday - Sunday) and tickets are only $12!

Boaters can check out some beautiful boats, talk to experts industry experts and have fun in a friendly setting. Attendees can also participate in the swap meet on Saturday, which is a new component this year. Finally, this is a great chance to meet the PYS team as we will have a booth at the event!

9th Annual Richmond Maritime Festival

This celebration of Steveston's maritime heritage will be held at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard. It all kicks off on the evening of Friday, August 10th with live music, drumming and light refreshments.

Come back on Saturday and Sunday, August 10th and 11th, from 11:00am–6:00pm for full-scale festival fun for all ages. Enjoy food, music, artists, storytellers, dancers, drummers and more. But whatever you do, don’t forget to visit the bounty of beautiful wooden boats moored at the 190-metre dock. There will be exhibitors from the Vancouver Wooden Boat Society, Britannia Heritage Shipyard Society, Port Metro Vancouver, and many more!

2013 Vancouver International Boat Show

The annual Vancouver International Boat Show will be held at Granville Island and BC Place Stadium in 2013. The days for the Boat Show have also been changed. Instead of the show running Wednesday to Sunday, it will run from Thursday, February 7th to Monday, February 11th. The change was made to include the brand new holiday, Family day, on Monday the 11th. Some of the many exciting show features include a SailFest, Kids Zone, boating seminars, a wooden boat alley and free boat rides. A complete list can be found here. Silly Boat Regatta - Nanaimo, B.C.

On Sunday, July 15th, Coast Capital Savings and the Nanaimo Child Development Centre welcome you to take part in the 28th Annual Silly Boat Regatta in Nanaimo, B.C. at the Maffeo Sutton Park! You don't want to miss out on a spectacular day full of fun, camaraderie and of course, silly antics!

Race day festivities include boat building, music, performers, and free family activities from 8 am - 4 pm with Races beginning at 1 pm. This event is in support of the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, and all proceeds will be going towards supporting their activities. Visit the Silly Boat Regatta website for more information. Shelter Island Marina Day and Swap Meet

Want to spend your Saturday with other boating enthusiasts and participate in a swap meet? The Shelter Island Marina is holding their Marina Day and Swap Meet on Saturday, June 9th from 9AM - 3PM. Best of all, proceeds from the event will benefit the Steveston Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR), a volunteer organization dedicated to keeping our waters safe for boaters.
