Does PYS Offer Consulting Services?, on Aug 16, 2016 asked:

I have seen your YouTube videos of the boat show classes. Nice work! You are knowledgeable. Since I am in San Diego, I cannot come in and see you, but am wondering if you are available for hire as a consultant? My wife and I are having a 53 foot offshore sailing catamaran built that we plan to circumnavigate. I specified B&G over Raymarine, since I have heard from multiple sources that Raymarine’s quality was low over the past few years, but is now improving under FLIR. However, I hear B&G is still good quality, fewer repairs. In addition, B&G has a plant in Ensenada, Mexico which is 70 miles away. I am not an engineer, therefore my trade-off is to have less bells and whistles and/or “technical” systems in exchange for fewer repairs and quality construction since we are going to be in remote places and I don’t want to deal with repairs in or out of civilization. The builder will install the chosen system and space is available for any size. Can I hire you for your advice? -Bryan

Tom – Raymarine ST60 Instrument Covers, on Sep 17, 2014 asked:

Hope things are well with you. Everything has worked perfectly since the installation of our chartplotter/sounder. Very happy. However, in a wind storm two of my sun covers blew away off my Raymarine ST60 instruments. Raymarine does not stock them anymore. So if you happen to be replacing any of those units with some newer electronics and have some sun covers I would be interested in buying a couple. The ST60 Plus is available but unfortunately is a different shape. By the way I enjoy your articles in Pacific Yachting.

Alan – Masthead Wind Transducer, on Aug 10, 2014 asked:

I am a 9 to 5 working guy with an expensive hobby; I own an old sailboat. Worse, I'm a geek, meaning that I throw money away on marine electronics as well as sailing bits. One of my worst purchases was a Raymarine ST40 wind with Rotavecta masthead unit that does not show wind direction. Now, masthead wind transducers are simple enough devices and I do have some skills, both electronic and mechanical, so I am thinking about just building my own. While the electronic part is simple enough, the actual mechanics could be tricky. So I am looking for some stunningly cheap masthead unit with either the cups and the vane or just the vane itself. It's the mechanics I'm hoping I do not have to reproduce. So, if you have anything like that laying around, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Scott - External Compass, on Jan 13, 2014 asked:

I was reading your web review of the Raymarine ST2000 tiller pilot which I use. You list a "pro" as being able to use an external compass, but I have seen information on the Raymarine website that the tiller pilots won't override their internal compass. I would like to confirm if you have tested this successfully or have a definitive source. The ultimate solution is to upgrade to one of the new EV-1 or EV-2 systems with a tiller pilot but it is a bit out of my price range right now so looking to find a lower cost solution.

Derrick, on Jul 10, 2013 asked:

I purchased a Raymarine C90W MFD, L755/760 in hull transducer, DSM30 digital sounder and a ST40 depth display. It was my intention to use the ST40 as a repeater in the starboard side master state room for an anchor/low/deep water alarm. However it now appears this may not work as planned. Do you know if it can be set up this way or what can be done to make it happen? The current sounder is a B&G network I would consider tying the ST40 into that as an option as well.

Bryan, on Mar 28, 2013 asked:

I have noticed that the compasses on my boat are not properly calibrated. That is the mechanical compass, the fluxgate compass on the Furuno, and the fluxgate compass on the Simrad never give the same bearing. They are out by at least 10 degrees. This raises the question of which fluxgate compass will govern when a waypoint is set.

Mark, on Sep 15, 2009 asked:

I recently installed a complete Raymarine navigation package, which includes an E80, 4kW radar, ST60+ instruments, and an S1 autopilot. The radar overlay-onto-chart feature is one of the main reasons I upgraded my whole navigation system. Frustratingly, the radar overlay doesn't always align with the chart, even though I've tried calibrating numerous times. What is going on here?
