Ask PYS: Navigation

Tom, on Aug 04, 2011 asked:

Can an iPad loaded with Navionics software be linked to a Raymarine autopilot system? We have a Raymarine autopilot - about 2007 - not sure of the model. We were thinking of getting a chartplotter but were recently impressed by a fellow boater's iPad/Navionics app. Is it possible to link the iPad to the autopilot?

Hi Tom,

Yes, an iPad can be linked to a Raymarine autopilot, but only if you also have a C Wide, E Wide, E Classic, E7, or G series chartplotter. All except the E7 (not yet available in stores) require an external wireless router for the plotter as well. Unfortunately, at present there is no way to integrate just a Raymarine (autohelm) autopilot with the Navionics app.

Hope this helps with your decision.
