From the helm: The Gabriola Galleries

The trip to Nanaimo is very scenic, and on the way you can pass by the beautiful Gabriola Galleries. The Galleries are home to these gorgeous bluffs with trees sticking out every which way. The water is pretty deep in the area so that even with a sailboat you could get in close to have a look.

The best part of the bluffs is the amazing cave-like structures that have formed in the rock from years of wear and tear from the ocean. Hundreds of cormorants hang out in these caves and around the island. In these photos you can't see any of the birds, but you can see some of what they've left behind...

The Gabriola Galleries are a great place to stop by and observe marine life (there are often seals close by too) if you're boating near Nanaimo!
